More amazingness with Google Calendars and iCal

Earlier I made a post about syncing iCal on multiple computers to Google Calendars and thus keeping them all synced together.  For those of you who updated your iPhones and iPod touches to the 3.0 software update, you can now take it a step further and sync directly to your iPhone or iPod via WiFi or 3G using CalDAV.

If you open up your Settings icon on your device, click Mail/Contacts/Calendars, then Add Account.  Under type, select Other.  The server should be google.com, account name is your full Gmail address, and password is your Gmail password.  Click Next and you’re done.  You can configure it for updates, but remember that more frequent updates will drain your battery quickly.

Another thing I recently discovered with Google Cal is its SMS support for updates.  If you activate your phone in your Gcal settings, you can text updates, such as: “Wednesday Dinner at Applebees 7pm.”  Since Google is awesome, it detects fields and will create a new event on that coming Wednesday, with a time of 7PM and a location of Applebees, titled “Dinner at Applebees.”  Also, if you just text a date, such as “August 20th,” it will text you your day’s agenda.  Handy for non-iPhone users such as myself, who don’t always have their calendar on them.
